Before You Hire

Typical turnaround is 1–3 weeks for most collision repairs. Ask:

Can I get a written estimate with parts and labor listed separately before any work starts?
What is your hourly labor rate, and is there a diagnostic fee? Is it credited toward the repair?
Will you call me for approval if the job grows beyond the estimate?
Are your technicians ASE certified in this kind of repair?
Are the parts new OEM, aftermarket or rebuilt?

Tips

In most states you may choose your own shop, even if your insurer recommends another one. Check your policy and state rules.
Ask for a final invoice showing that the listed parts were installed.
Modern cars may need camera and sensor recalibration after a collision; ask whether it is in the estimate.

Getting several quotes? Line them up in the quote comparison tool and read what to check on an estimate before you approve work.
